Blown glass statuette, 'Timeless Aqua Turtle'

"Turtles are threatened with extinction because people have hunted them for food or jewelry. Making this sculpture is a way of testifying their existence for future generations, who may never see a live one, " says Thai artist Piyawat. He crafts the sculpture with hand-blown techniques, creating a colorful illusion under the turtle's clear glass shell. "I studied at H.M. Queen Sirikit of Thailand's Art and Craft Center, so I feel committed to support her conservation center, where they work hard at preserving the turtles in the Pang-gha Sea." Piyawat works with hand-blown techniques that lead to the formation of tiny air bubbles within the glass, adding to the sculpture's natural charm. It also implies that size, shape, and distribution of color may vary slightly.
